2027 Ram 1500 Payload Capacity & Loading Guide
How much weight can a 2027 Ram 1500 carry? The manufacturer guide lists maximum available payload of 2,340 pounds for a specific properly equipped Pentastar V6 4x2 Quad Cab. Compare configurations below and learn how passengers, tools, cargo and trailer tongue weight use your truck’s available capacity.
*Maximums for specific properly equipped configurations. Use the exact truck’s loading label when planning your load.
Which 2027 Ram 1500 Has the Highest Payload?
The highest payload figure in the manufacturer guide is 2,340 pounds for the 3.6L Pentastar V6 with eTorque, 4x2 drivetrain, Quad Cab and 6-foot-4-inch bed, with a 7,200-pound gross vehicle weight rating.
That figure does not apply to every V6 truck. The V6 Crew Cab with a 5-foot-7-inch bed is listed at 1,960 pounds for 4x2 and 1,770 pounds for 4x4. Cab, bed, drivetrain, equipment and trim affect the capacity available on a specific truck.

Payload Ratings by Engine, Cab & Bed
All weights below are in pounds. GVWR means gross vehicle weight rating. A dash represents NA in the manufacturer chart. The main source chart is labeled Tradesman; the High Output rows below use configurations explicitly labeled Limited and RHO.
This selected table omits blank source cells and High Output cells without a clear configuration label. It is not a complete all-trim listing or a substitute for a specific vehicle’s loading label. On mobile, swipe horizontally within the table.

What Counts Toward Ram 1500 Payload?
Payload includes more than the weight placed in the truck bed. People, cargo, added equipment and weight transferred through a trailer hitch all use the truck’s available capacity.
- The driver and all passengers.
- Luggage, groceries, tools and equipment.
- Materials and other cargo carried in the bed.
- Accessories added after manufacture.
- Added hitch equipment and loaded trailer tongue weight.
Use the Tire and Loading Information label’s combined occupant-and-cargo limit for the exact vehicle. Account for equipment added after manufacture, such as a toolbox, tonneau cover, bed rack or camper shell.
Example: Payload While Towing a Travel Trailer
Suppose a specific truck’s loading label allows 1,800 pounds of combined occupants and cargo. The example below shows how a family trip could use that capacity. It is an illustration, not a rating for a particular truck in our inventory.
| Load item | Weight (lbs) |
|---|---|
| Occupants | 500 |
| Cargo and camping supplies | 200 |
| Added accessories and hitch equipment | 100 |
| Loaded trailer tongue weight | 800 |
| Total payload used | 1,600 |
| Remaining against the example 1,800-lb limit | 200 |
The 200 pounds remaining in this example does not establish that the setup meets axle, tire, hitch, combined-weight or trailer-weight limits. Check every applicable rating with the truck and trailer fully loaded.
Payload vs. Towing Capacity
Payload is the weight carried by the truck. Towing capacity is the trailer weight the properly equipped truck can pull. The two are connected because trailer tongue weight uses part of the truck’s payload capacity.
The 2027 guide’s maximum payload of 2,340 pounds and maximum towing of 11,530 pounds belong to different configurations. They should not be treated as simultaneous allowances. Visit our 2027 Ram 1500 towing capacity page to compare trailer ratings.
Understanding GVWR, GCWR and GAWR
GVWR: Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
GVWR is the maximum permitted total loaded weight of the truck, including the vehicle itself, occupants, cargo, added equipment and trailer tongue weight.
GCWR: Gross Combined Weight Rating
GCWR is the maximum permitted combined weight of the loaded truck and trailer. Being within the truck’s payload limit does not automatically mean the combined weight is acceptable.
GAWR: Gross Axle Weight Rating
GAWR limits the weight supported by each axle. Load placement matters: the rear axle can reach its limit even when the truck’s total weight remains below GVWR.
How Engine and Configuration Affect Payload
The Hurricane Standard Output engine’s highest listed payload is 1,880 pounds in the 4x4 Quad Cab configuration. Its short-bed Crew Cab entries are 1,800 pounds for 4x2 and 1,840 pounds for 4x4.
The HEMI without eTorque reaches 1,760 pounds in the listed 4x2 short-bed Crew Cab configuration. The HEMI with eTorque reaches 1,680 pounds in the corresponding listed configuration.
Higher horsepower does not automatically produce higher payload. The 540-horsepower Hurricane High Output engine’s listed payload maximum is 1,530 pounds for RHO, below the V6 configuration’s 2,340-pound maximum.

2027 Ram 1500 Payload Questions
Can every 2027 Ram 1500 carry 2,340 pounds?
No. That figure applies to a specific properly equipped Pentastar V6 4x2 Quad Cab with the 6-foot-4-inch bed and 7,200-pound GVWR. Use the exact vehicle’s loading label.
Do passengers count toward payload?
Yes. The driver and all passengers count toward the vehicle’s combined occupant-and-cargo limit.
Does trailer tongue weight count toward payload?
Yes. The weight transferred to the truck through the hitch uses payload capacity along with occupants, cargo and added equipment.
Do a toolbox and camper shell reduce available payload?
Equipment added after manufacture uses part of the capacity otherwise available for occupants and cargo. Account for its weight when planning the load.
Where do I find the payload limit for a specific truck?
Check the vehicle’s Tire and Loading Information label, usually in the driver’s door opening, for its combined occupant-and-cargo limit. Also check the certification label for GVWR and axle ratings, and account for equipment added after manufacture.
Does a longer bed always mean more payload?
No. Engine, drivetrain, vehicle weight, equipment and weight ratings also matter. Compare the exact configuration rather than bed length alone.

All capacities are for properly equipped configurations. Maximum trailer weight and maximum payload ratings are mutually exclusive; they are not simultaneous allowances. Equipment, trim, cab, bed, drivetrain and axle ratio affect capacity. Never exceed GVWR, GCWR, either axle’s GAWR, the vehicle’s payload limit or any hitch/component rating. The guide lists a 1,100-pound maximum tongue weight for the Class IV receiver, calculates conventional tongue weight at 10%, and recommends a weight-distributing system for trailers over 5,000 pounds. Check the exact truck’s labels, owner’s manual and applicable Ram data before loading or towing. Specifications may change.
