How Axle Ratio Changes Ram 1500 Towing Capacity
For the Hurricane Standard Output 4x2 Crew Cab with a 5-foot-7-inch bed, the guide lists 8,320 pounds with a 3.21 axle ratio and 11,420 pounds with a 3.92 axle ratio. That 3,100-pound difference shows why knowing the engine alone is not enough to establish towing capacity. The associated gross combined weight ratings also differ.
The HEMI without eTorque shows a similar pattern. Its listed 4x2 Crew Cab short-bed rating is 8,370 pounds with the 3.21 axle and 11,470 pounds with the 3.92 axle. Confirm the installed axle ratio when comparing trucks.
HEMI V8 Towing: With and Without eTorque
The manufacturer guide lists separate ratings for the 5.7L HEMI V8 with eTorque and the version without eTorque. Both produce 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, but their towing figures differ.
With a 3.92 axle ratio, 4x4 drivetrain, Crew Cab and 5-foot-7-inch bed, the HEMI with eTorque is listed at 11,090 pounds. The HEMI without eTorque is listed at 11,190 pounds. Use the rating for the installed powertrain and exact configuration.
Hurricane High Output and Ram RHO Towing
More horsepower does not automatically mean a higher trailer rating. The 540-horsepower Hurricane High Output engine has different towing limits depending on configuration.
The RHO entry is listed at 8,370 pounds. The Limited High Output entries are 9,240 pounds with the 5-foot-7-inch bed and 9,480 pounds with the 6-foot-4-inch bed. The Limited figures should not be applied to an RHO.
Can a 2027 Ram 1500 Tow Your Camper, Boat or Work Trailer?
Start with the trailer’s fully loaded weight rather than its empty or dry weight. Include water, supplies, tools and equipment that will travel in the trailer. Its GVWR helps you understand how heavy it could become when loaded.

Verify the applicable receiver, hitch, vehicle and component limits for your truck and trailer. A weight-distributing hitch does not authorize exceeding a receiver rating. The guide recommends a weight-distributing system for trailers over 5,000 pounds.
